Day 1: The Dali Museum & the Beach

The Dali: Culture and art, what's not to love?

The permanent collection at the Dali Museum is stunning and The Frida Kahlo exhibit did a great job of telling her story. Despite the fact that it was a little crowded when we went, I’m glad I got the chance to see this exhibit in person.

The Dali itself is also a work of art. The waterfront gives you a chance to catch a breath after frolicking through the garden maze, and the wishing tree is the icing on the cake. Don't forget to take a picture with the giant mustache.

Tickets start at $17 with a student ID.

The Beach: The beaches on the Gulf Coast are simply to die for.

This is where you'll find white sand and still waters. It’s also way less crowded around these parts, meaning you’ll get a chance to enjoy the sound of the waves lapping at the shore. After grabbing a bite at Kooky Coconut, we watched the sunset on Indian Rocks Beach.

Day 2: Sunken Gardens & the Mural Tour

Sunken Gardens: Two words, Hidden Gem

If you're into botanicals, you're going to love it here. This place is huge.

It doesn't look like it at first, but Sunken Gardens spans over 4 acres.

Featuring koi ponds, flamingos, and all the plants you could imagine, this place is definitely a photo op. Not to mention we found a Groupon which made the entry for 2 only $10.

For lunch, we stopped by Trip’s Diner just up the street (recommended by TripAdvisor). This was a cute little diner, with good, friendly service. I could have just been extremely hungry, but that was the most delicious fried chicken breast I’ve ever had. The sides weren't half bad either.

Detour: Directly across the street from the diner was this huge thrift store full of antique finds, as well as a book store worthy of spending an entire day in. Their comic book section towards the back of the store was QUALITY.

Last Stop - Downtown St. Pete:

My whole reason for planning this trip was to see the murals, and I must say I was not disappointed.

We decided to rent bikes through the SoBi app instead of doing the SHINE bike tour so that we could see the murals on our own time. I definitely recommend mapping out the murals you really want to see prior to starting your search- they’re literally all over the city!

Pro tip: ride the trolley to get an idea of which route you want to take ~

In short, St. Petersburg is a fun, eclectic little town that's perfect for a weekend getaway if you live in Central Florida. I think about this city a lot, and I’d be down to take a trip back there in a heartbeat. Plus if you’ve got some extra time, Tampa is only about 45 mins away.
